Summer Signings - Cesar Azpilicueta

When I heard Chelsea had agreed to buy Cesar Azpilicueta I wasn't exactly ecstatic, I hadn't seen too much of his play, just bits and pieces here and there. However, I did know that he was a typical full back of today's game which tend to attack more than defend. I can't see him playing too much for Chelsea this season having only made one appearance that I know of which was against Wolves in the Carling Cup. Even though Wolves didn't offer much of a threat at all to our back four that game, I was impressed with Cesar's attacking threat from the flank, looking to put crosses into the box towards Fernando Torres. The attacking part of his game looks fairly solid but he will need more experience in the squad in order to assess the quality of his defending. Dave (as he was christened by a few Chelsea fans during the Spanish Quartet evening at the Bridge along with Oriol Romeu, Juan Mata and Fernando Torres), will need more experience in the squad to prove that he should be chosen instead of an excellent Branislav Ivanovic this season. Dave is going to have to be patient in order to get this chance, whether this is a stint in the team in cup competitions or a few run-outs in the league, he is certainly going to have to prove his worth. Overall, I will say that he looks like a decent right back for the future and hopefully he will be as good defensively as Ivanovic but with that extra bit of pace which Branislav lacks.
