Summer Signings - Marko Marin

The Bosnian born German Marko Marin could turn out to be a great signing for the Blues, I saw him play a few times for Werder Bremen and like the other summer signings has similar qualities. Marko seems like the type of player who will fit in with the new more attacking and attractive style of football for Chelsea, he has good passing ability, not a bad crosser of the ball and he is never frightened to run at defenders. Personally, I think this is his best quality because that is the situation which he poses the biggest threat to the opposition, he certainly knows how to beat a player and has a few tricks up his sleeve too. He is most effective down the left flank making positive runs in order to give his team mates an option when on the break and during a slick passing possession. I think he will have to work very hard in order to nail down a regular first team place with Eden Hazard making a great impression whilst Marin struggled to recover from the hamstring injury which he sustained during pre-season. However, if given the chance, there is no doubt in my mind that Marko Marin will be an extremely useful asset to the club especially during those congested and strenuous weeks and months that will appear during the season.

Summer Signings - Oscar

I'm probably not alone when I say that I had never seen Oscar play before Chelsea were interested in the Brazilian. However, when Chelsea were interested in him I had to see what all the fuss was about via a popular video sharing website *cough* YouTube. I was impressed with what I saw, he seemed confident on the ball, secured it well, wasn't afraid to take on players and didn't hesitate shooting when he had an opening. Seeing him play for Chelsea confirmed those observations, he looks certain to fit the passing style which Chelsea want to play. The Champions League game against Juventus was Oscar's first start for the Blues and what a way to make your mark in England with 2 goals the second goal being particularly impressive. He flaunted his technique with an ever so "cheeky" flick around one of the world's best players in Andrea Pirlo and with his back to goal, turns and shoots, rifling it in the top corner giving a top class 'keeper in Gianluigi Buffon no chance of saving it. With an exciting start from the young Brazilian I can't wait to see what else he has to offer the club as he matures and learns from other top class players that we have in the side in order to become one of those top players.

Summer Signings - Victor Moses

Football fans up and down the country can see the quality which Victor Moses possesses most notably his ability to beat players using pace and trickery alongside his ball control and final pass. With Wigan playing us just five days before Chelsea signed him, Victor may have convinced the Blues to pay that bit extra to secure his services, although his side lost that game 2-0 he certainly was the outstanding performer of that Wigan side. Chelsea fans haven't seen much of Victor Moses so far this campaign with Roberto Di Matteo opting to select the pace and work rate of Ramires alongside with two pass masters in Mata and Hazard, However, with a jam-packed schedule for the Blues this season I'm sure that RDM will not hesitate to use Victor in his most effective role (in my opinion) on one of the wings. He has made substitute appearances for the Blues and most recently a start against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Capital One Cup as it is now known. I was at that game and from what I saw I was impressed, he worked extremely hard even when the Blues were more than 3 goals up. Victor was obviously looking to throw a spanner in the works for RDM's next team selection by looking to take the chance that he was given in this cup tie. His hard work certainly payed off when he nabbed a goal on his Chelsea debut putting an excellent downwards header into the back of the net.

Summer Signings - Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard - What can I say that hasn't already been said about our Belgian star Eden Hazard, he has had a phenomenal start to the campaign with a goal from the penalty spot and plenty of assists to go with it. I thought that the fans would have to be patient (just like with any new signing) for Eden to settle into a new country and a new team but he has taken the league by storm with some explosive performances. He certainly flourishes in this new style which the Blues are playing, his touch on the ball is outstanding with little flicks all over the pitch, he's always giving his team mates the option to pass to him and he is always looking to bring others into play also. His rotation between the left wing and behind the striker with Juan Mata looks to be working well with both players seeming happy to play in either position giving Robbie Di Matteo more options when selecting the starting 11. His phenomenal ability of beating players exposes a team's back four especially if Eden is one on one with the defender, he is able to use the combination of lightning pace, great ball control and vision to bring something special to the team. Therefore, if he continues the level of play he has shown at the beginning of the Premier League campaign then I am certain that he will become even more of an influential player for the Blues for many years to come.

My View On The First 3 League Games

The start to the season has certainly been an eventful one for Roberto Di Matteo’s men and the results will have delighted fans with 3 wins from 3 games, the only team to have done so. These results wouldn’t have been too much of a surprise for Chelsea fans, with expectations of vast improvements in league form this time around. However, when the Blues were drawn against Wigan away for the first game of the season, I was wary and I don’t think I would have been the only one judging by Wigan’s outstanding performances towards the back end of last season. Most notably a win against Manchester United giving the Blues something to watch out for when traveling to the DW Stadium in the season opener. However, Chelsea had their own good form from the end of the season with that glorious night in Munich. RDM’s men certainly showed why they will be a force to be reckoned with this season with an extremely fast and effective start against the Latics with 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes but most impressively the outstanding impression Eden Hazard with 2 assists – a perfect pass to an on-running Branislav Ivanovic and winning the penalty which Frank Lampard converted. The Blues carried the momentum on to the game against Newcastle with another explosive performance from Eden Hazard and then the win against Reading despite a scare against the Royals, which was topped off with a late goal from a new look Fernando Torres. From what I have seen from the boys this season, shows a lot of promise and with our rivals slower out of the gate, the season is looking bright for the Champions of Europe.
